Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela: Pain and Hope

Fundación Columbus will organize a tour of three concerts that will culminate in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela on October 30. The concerts will present a program that is framed under the title “Pain and hope”.

The tour will begin on October 26 at the Cathedral of Orense, will continue on the 27 at the Basilica of Santa María la Mayor in Pontevedra and will close at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela on October 30. All concerts will take place at 9pm. Those of Orense and Pontevedra will be freely accessible and a zero row will be established, making a donation through the Foundation’s website indicating in the concept “Pain and Hope”. The one in Santiago, by invitation only. The events are aimed at raising funds to treat children Meir and Yehudit, two Israeli brothers who suffer from a disease known as Childhood Parkinson’s (AADC).

Aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase deficiency (AADC) is a genetic disease associated with defects in neurotransmitter synthesis, which causes motor dysfunction and autonomy, limiting quality of life and causing delayed development and premature death. . Only 150 cases are known in the world and the Columbus Foundation aims for the majority of these minors to access a treatment that is in experimental development with very promising results.

To date, the Columbus Foundation has cared for more than 25 children within the gene therapy program to treat AADC deficiency and has assisted more than 70 minors and their families within the program of access to proton therapy in centers of Germany, France, Italy and Switzerland to fight childhood tumors.

The musical program to be performed will include Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, as well as arias and duets by Bach, Handel and Scarlatti. It aims to establish a parallel with the path that people affected by these rare diseases and their families follow in the search for a cure.

First-class international artists will participate, such as the Irish mezzo-soprano Tara Erraught and the soprano Auxiliadora Toledano, together with the Munich Chamber Orchestra, all of them conducted by maestro Ramón Tebar. The Columbus Foundation will make a video of the Santiago Cathedral concert that will feature the stage direction of Rafael Villalobos.
